The Professional Portal Track / Rural Scholars Program The Professional Portal Track (PPT) is a post-baccalaureate degree-granting course of study that seeks to improve health care in Mississippi by enhancing the academic competitiveness of students most likely to serve in rural, medically underserved areas. The Rural Scholars Program (RSP) is envisioned as a component of the PPT. This program targets students from rural parts of the state who fall short of meeting all of the academic requirements for admission in the professional practitioner programs, such as medicine, dentistry, and the PhD science programs. Upon entrance in the Rural Scholars Program, students embark on a two year course of study leading to a master’s degree in science that strengthens their professional practitioner school application.
