Sean R. Abram, Ph.D. Contact Project Manager: Janina Daniels The Research Core is currently led by Dr. Sean Abram as an Interim Director. The Research Core's goals are to develop and foster health disparity research projects on prevention and clinical interventions that improve the delivery of health care services. Major activities include a Competitive Research Grant Program and the Visiting Scholars Program. Ongoing research activities occur through our partners and subawards: University Mississippi Medical Center, Michael Flessner M.D. Ph.D., Professor of Medicine and Chief of Nephrology, is Principal Investigator of the project on “Healthcare Disparities in Chronic Kidney Disease.” University of Southern Mississippi - Dr. Sharon Topping examines Decreasing Mental Health Disparities and focuses on Hancock, Harrison , and Forrest Counties post Hurricane Katrina. Alcorn State University - Dr. Carolyn Dollar leads a project that explores the Impact of Disease Management Interventions on Diabetes, a Community Based Approach in Rural Mississippi.
