Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi

The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi (DFM) will sponsor the Health Initiative in African American Churches.  The purpose of this

program is to provide education and health screenings in approximately 20 churches during a one-year period.  This initiative allows the

DFM and its partners to further leverage the tremendous network of African American churches in Mississippi .  Data show that obesity

and diabetes are far more prevalent among African Americans than Caucasian Americans in Mississippi .  African Americans in

Mississippi
have a tremendous history of supporting and attending their churches.  It is the foundation’s goal to engage church

congregations in a program of awareness, screening, and early treatment of diabetes.
