The Center for Health Informatics and Patient Safety (CHIPS) is led by Co-Directors Dr. Andy Brown and Dr. Bill Rudman who are both nationally known and respected in Health Information Technology circles. The goals of CHIPS are to function as a health informatics center and provide data management, analysis, and statistical support to other core areas; to establish a statewide interactive knowledge system to provide up-to-date data; to ultimately translate research projects into reproducible models within the community. Ongoing activities occur through our partners and subawards:

Jackson State University - Dr. Mary Lou Gutierrez-Mohammed leads the Surveillance of Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome Among Hurricane Katrina Cohort study. The research involves developing and administering an instrument to measure common and severe stress reactions, and risk for severe reactions after a disaster.

Health Pathways, Inc - This project is working to connect 8 - 20 rural hospitals on a centralized platform to allow for electronic exchange of data on patient safety and establishment of an electronic health record (EHR).
