Alcorn State University, Carolyn Dollar, Interim Associate Dean, School of Nursing is Principal Investigator of the project titled “Eliminating Health Disparities: Community-Based Diabetes Health Education in Rural Mississippi.” This project will explore and document knowledge about the disease process of diabetes, as well as knowledge of disease self-management among African Americans diagnosed with or at high risk of developing the disease.
The project is designed to accomplish four objectives:
1) provide information about the disease process of diabetes mellitus; 2) discuss the risk factors for developing diabetes mellitus; 3) describe strategies for self-management and for preventing complications; and 4) determine access to care among African Americans with diabetes mellitus.
